Foundations of Clinical Anatomy

This unit introduces core anatomical terminology, orientation, and the major body systems relevant to clinical practice, including integumentary, musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, immune/lymphatic, digestive, urinary, and endocrine systems. It establishes foundational knowledge and clinical reasoning skills needed for subsequent units focused on applied assessment, diagnostics, and intervention.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and apply standard anatomical terminology, directional terms, body planes, and regional descriptors to accurately describe the location and spatial relationships of human body structures.
• Apply knowledge of integumentary, musculoskeletal, and nervous system structure and function to explain common clinical presentations and correlate structural abnormalities with functional outcomes.
• Demonstrate the basic pathways and physiological roles of the cardiovascular, respiratory, immune, and lymphatic systems by tracing flow (blood, air, lymph) and identifying key points for clinical assessment.
• Evaluate the anatomy and primary functions of the digestive, urinary, and endocrine systems to predict how structural changes affect homeostasis and to recommend appropriate foundational clinical observations or assessments.
