This unit teaches students how to configure, secure, and maintain a WordPress site while creating and customizing themes and templates for responsive, branded publishing. Students will practice installation, backups, plugin management, dashboard configuration, and content workflows to prepare for advanced theme development and site deployment in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- Apply WordPress installation, hosting selection, secure file transfer, and database backup procedures to deploy and maintain a functional site.
- Demonstrate site maintenance and security practices by arranging the dashboard, enabling automatic updates, and installing/configuring core and security plugins (e.g., Jetpack, Limit Login Attempts).
- Analyze theme and template structures (parent/child themes, template tags, header images, sidebars, and responsive considerations) and customize the Twenty Twenty theme or alternative themes to meet layout and branding requirements.
