This unit teaches creation and integration of interactive client- and server-side web features, including JavaScript animation, form handling, simple PHP processing, live data embedding, and adding a WordPress blog. Students will apply tools such as Dreamweaver and basic Flash workflows to build, test, and refine dynamic, data-driven pages that build on earlier design fundamentals and prepare for deployment and site management in the final unit.
Learning Objectives
- Apply client-side scripting (JavaScript) techniques to create animations and interactive behaviors, using both hand-coded and generated scripts and integrating them into pages with Dreamweaver.
- Implement HTML form solutions and server-side processing using PHP to collect, validate, sanitize, and store user input, including building and testing form workflows in Dreamweaver.
- Demonstrate the ability to gather and embed live external data sources (APIs, RSS/JSON feeds) and integrate that data into dynamic pages and a WordPress blog.
- Evaluate accessibility, usability, security, and cross-browser compatibility of interactive features (Flash, JavaScript, PHP, WordPress) and debug and refine solutions prior to deployment.
