Project Execution and Controls

This unit develops students’ ability to convert project plans into monitored execution by assigning resources, establishing communication and information systems, and applying control techniques. Students will practice working in matrix environments, using PM software and earned value management to track progress and make corrective decisions, building on foundation planning skills and preparing for advanced control and closeout topics.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze network diagrams to identify critical path, float, and schedule constraints and use findings to inform schedule adjustments
• Estimate resource needs and individual commitment levels, and create assignment documents including a Responsibility Assignment Matrix that align skills and availability
• Apply project management information systems, appropriate communication media, and software tools to collect, track, and report project status and earned value metrics
• Demonstrate techniques for managing team interactions in a matrix environment and implement control processes to involve stakeholders, monitor performance, and execute corrective actions
