NCLEX Clinical Reasoning and Skills

This unit integrates NCLEX-style critical thinking and test strategies with hands-on clinical decision-making and safe procedural care. Students practice prioritization, cultural competence, medication and parenteral therapies, procedural preparation, documentation, and incident reporting while preparing for test day and remediation.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze NCLEX-style questions and case scenarios to identify ideal responses, keywords, distractors, and employ elimination and answer-selection strategies (including when not to change answers) to improve test-taking accuracy.
• Apply the nursing process to prioritize and plan culturally competent, patient-centered care for clients with high-risk behaviors, abuse histories, alternate lifestyles, and routine hygiene needs, including preparing patients for diagnostic tests, therapeutic procedures, conscious sedation, and safe discharge.
• Demonstrate safe clinical skills and accurate documentation by performing parenteral therapy and medication administration techniques, preparing and transporting patients for tests and procedures, and completing incident reports per facility policy and evidence-based standards.
• Evaluate personal NCLEX readiness and test-day logistics by creating a preparation and contingency plan, identifying support resources, assessing individual weak areas revealed by practice testing, and implementing targeted remediation strategies.
