Prompting and Practice Transformation

This unit teaches advanced prompt engineering for reliable legal outputs and examines real-world adoption of AI in law firms through practitioner perspectives. Students will practice creating repeatable prompts, assess organizational and partner-level considerations for deployment, and evaluate ethical and risk management strategies as AI disrupts legal practice.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and iteratively refine prompts to produce accurate, reproducible outputs for legal tasks such as research, summarization, and draft generation
• Apply advanced prompt-engineering patterns and templates to develop firm-ready prompts for common legal workflows (e.g., memos, contract review, client communications)
• Demonstrate strategies for engaging partners and legal stakeholders, assessing organizational readiness, and designing adoption plans that address usability, training, and governance
• Evaluate ethical, regulatory, and risk considerations associated with deploying generative AI in legal settings and propose concrete mitigation and oversight measures
